How to ace your final interview
This is your opportunity to demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm for the role and the company. Depending on the interview format, refer back to the guidance on relevant interview formats, such as one-to-one face-to-face and panel interviews, before you read the additional guidance below:
Disarming questions
Beware of deliberately disarming questions. These are questions designed to catch you slightly off guard. For example, “If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?” or "What colour makes you feel happy?" Answer professionally with a wry smile on your face. But, stay focused: the next question could be a tough one.
Freestyling
During the final interview, the interviewers are more likely to freestyle, making predicting questions harder. But, remember, you're here for a reason - they really like you. Be yourself, listen intently to the questions, and give yourself time to think before you answer.
Review
In advance, read your CV, application, company news and any notes you've taken during the previous stages of the selection process.
Confidence v Arrogance
There’s a tendency for some candidates to get over confident at this stage - that’s a bad idea!
Cultural fit
The interviewers will be considering the following: How well will they work with other degree apprentices? How well do their values align with the company’s values? Understanding the values of the company is crucial.
References
Hopefully, by now, you have obtained a number of written references from a range of different people (this could also include your UCAS reference). Assuming this is the case, you should bring printed copies of these references to the interview and give them to the main interviewer at the end of the interview.
