How to ace telephone interview
In addition to the previous interview guidance, below are a number of things you should consider.
Quiet space
When you know the date and time of your interview, you need to ensure you’re in a quiet space when you receive this call. Being on a busy bus is not an option.
Be professional
Telephone calls can feel informal - but don’t that lull you into a false sense of security. You have to, for example, politely introduce yourself and make sure you know the name of the person you’re talking to. Practice with a friend: introduce yourself, speak slowly and give yourself a little thinking time before answering any questions.
Fully charged
Make sure your mobile is fully charged. Worrying about running out of juice will distract you from the task at hand.
Stand up
When you are practising (or during the real interview), you should stand up. Many psychologists and career coaches recommend it. Here's why: Standing opens your diaphragm, helping you breathe more deeply and enabling you to project your voice clearly. You are likely to sound more confident, positive, enthusiastic and energetic.
